Lasciali parlare.
Tieni un'ancora vicina. Sempre.
Per me, è il limone.
Sono portoghese. Vivo in Sicilia.
Scegli l'amore.
Ogni volta che torni, ti ritrovi.
Un po' più intera. Un po' più tua.

The Manifesto of Return

You don't always have to move forward.
Sometimes, the bravest thing is to return.
Return to your breath.
It is always there, waiting for you. It never left you.
Return to your body.
It is not a project to be fixed.
It is a home to inhabit.
Return to your plate.
Not as a battlefield.
But as a small daily altar.
Don't count. Listen.
Don't weigh. Feel.
There is an ancient intelligence in your gut.
There is a memory of calm in your nervous system.
Let them speak.
Keep an anchor close. Always.
For me, it is the lemon.
I am Portuguese. I live in Sicily.
And no, it is not always easy to be far away.
There are days when the language feels heavy.
When the sun is too strong and the sea too vast.
Days when my body aches for a bread, a voice, a way of saying things that no one here understands.
On those days, I hold a Sicilian lemon in my hands.
It is sour. Like nostalgia. Like _saudade_.
It is bright. Like the life I chose.
Its skin is thick, like the skin I had to grow.
And inside, it is juicy, alive, generous.
Like us, women living between two lands.
The lemon taught me this:
you don't have to choose between sour and sweet.
You can hold both in the same hand.
You can miss Portugal
and at the same time deeply love this land that hosts you.
You can be a foreigner and belong.
You can be saudade and sunshine.
That's why I put it in everything.
In my morning water, in my little lemon balls, in my mindful pauses.
It is not just a fruit.
It is my way of saying: I am here. I stayed. I put down roots, but I did not forget where I come from.
And when you, reading this, feel split in half,
find your lemon.
What is your small gesture that brings you home, inside yourself?
You don't have to heal everything today.
You just have to make one small, gentle, consistent choice.
A glass of water in the morning.
Three breaths before answering.
A snack eaten with your hands, not with hurry.
Consistency is a form of love.
Perfection is a form of fear.
Choose love.
Every time you return, you find yourself again.
A little more whole. A little more yours.
